About VoiceMail4All

Untitled

How Does It Work?

Having a VoiceMail4All number means that you get a private BT telephone number with a local DDI (such as "0208" or "0113"). Anyone who rings your number listens to your personal greeting and can then leave you a message.

To pick up your messages you are given a free 0800 number which uses the same last few digits as your VoiceMail4All number. To pick up your messages just dial your 0800 number, press the "#" key as soon as you hear the voice, listen for the prompt to enter your password, and then listen to your message.

It’s easy to use and everyone who calls you can leave a message - just like a normal answerphone.

Cost

The voicemail service is provided to homeless people free-of-charge. (Other voicemail services in London cost as much as £15 per month!)

Even better, it costs you NOTHING to pick up your messages!!

Because you pick up your messages via an 0800 number, you can call for FREE from any phone box or landline, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! So the service is entirely free!

Please note that, unlike many "freephone" numbers, we receive no money from the calls that are made to your number, nor do we receive a fee when you call to pick up your messages.

How to Register

The VoiceMail4All scheme is offered through our network of Partner Projects. These are organisations who work with people who have had or currently have homelessness issues, or who are at risk of homelessness. If you wish to apply for your free voicemail number, then you will need to be working with one of these projects.

All of our Partner Projects offer a wide variety of helpful services, so it should not be difficult to find one which will be able to benefit you. Once you are registered with the Partner Project, they can help you to apply for a voicemail number on this website.

Setting Up Your Voicemail

Once you have received your voicemail number, your Partner Project will provide you with full instructions about how to set up and use your voicemail. This will include showing you how to record your personal greeting, changing your password, and allowing you to practice picking up messages.

Should you have any problems after that, just contact your Partner Project. They will either help you directly or contact us for further assistance.

How Long Can I Have It For?

To start off you can have your VoiceMail4All number for a maximum period of three months. You and your Partner Project will decide together how long you anticipate you will need the number. Once that period is over your voicemail box will be automatically cancelled. However, if you wish to renew your contract so you can have your number for longer, you can do so with any Partner Project you are currently working with.

People who have renewed their number more than once will have the option of renewing their number for six months.

Where is VoiceMail4All Available?

VoiceMail4All has been available in Greater London since July 2005. In January 2010, we expanded out of the "0208" catchement area and into Leeds ("0113") and Brighton ("01273"). We are hoping to make VoiceMail4All available in other areas very soon.

Other Quotes From Satisfied VoiceMail4All Clients

“It can be frustrating not having a telephone, especially when one moves out of an old residence. The voicemail really has helped me in having constant contact, especially from employment agencies.”

“I have had messages from potential employers which have led to interviews. Also messages from colleges, plus services such as the optician, family and friends.”

“My lawyer, who is impossible to get a hold of, was able to leave me a message which really helped me deal with my case.”

“I have fortnightly blood tests and the clinic needs my number to confirm I am on the right dosage of medication for my heart condition. I move around a lot so the benefits agency needs the number to update me on changes to my benefits.”

“I managed to get into detox because they were able to call me on the weekend when my day centre was closed!”

“BRILLIANT! I was staying in a B&B and bidding for a council flat. I needed to receive messages immediately or I would miss out. I could pick up messages whenever I wanted. The ‘No Message No Charge’ feature saved messing about. The flat I have now I heard about through VoiceMail4All!”

"I had been living abroad for 8 years and came back to England to look for employment. I had no money, not even for a mobile. I tried to register for unemployment when I first got here, but for various reasons, was having difficulty signing on. I tried looking for work, but it was impossible because I didn’t have a phone number or contact number of any kind. So there I was, without a job and without access to benefits! Through the help of a day centre, I got the telephone number, VoiceMail4All. I put the number on my CVs and suddenly I was able to get lots and lots of interviews. In fact, one day I got over 12 interviews in that day! Being able to pick up my messages for free from a payphone was great because it meant I wasn’t tied down to my day centre. I was able to nip around London and check for my messages between interviews wherever I was. In the end, I was able to get full-time work and almost a year later, I am still at the same job! VoiceMail4All was like a lifeline to me."
